Book Review: Storm and Silence by Robert Thier
Would you like
to have a good laugh while reading a historical novel?
Look no further
than Storm and Silence by Robert Thier, a historical fiction novel set in
Victorian England.
The novel has
gained popularity for its witty dialogue, strong and independent female
protagonist, and the slow-burning romance between Lilly and Mr. Ambrose.

Summary
Lilly Linton, a
strong-willed and independent young woman disguised herself as a man to secure
a job at a company.
She met Rikkard
Ambrose, the brooding and enigmatic owner of a large company who offered her
his secretary position after a fateful encounter, without realizing Lily was a
female.
When Mr. Ambrose
found out the true gender of his new secretary, the two engaged in a battle of
wills as Lilly tried to prove herself as a capable employee.
Suitable Audience
The novel would
likely appeal to fans of historical fiction, strong female protagonists, and
slow-burning romance.
But the book
does contain some mature themes and scenes of violence, which may not be
suitable for all audiences.
My Thoughts
I can still hear Mr. Ambrose’s “Knowledge is power is time is money.” and Lily’s “Mr. Ambrose, Sir!”
It’s amusing to read the interaction between a determined and witty female lead, and a cold and unapproachable workaholic male lead.
Robert Thier’s writing style is one of a kind. His attention to historical detail is impressive.
I love the well-placed humor and banter between the characters.
I also like the fact that the supporting characters in the book are equally well-developed, with Thier providing insight into their individual backgrounds and motivations.
The antagonist of the story is also well-crafted adding an extra layer of tension and intrigue to the plot.
Trust me, you won’t regret it if you give this book a try.
