BOOK REVIEW: GREAT EXPECTATIONS BY CHARLES DICKENS

My Thoughts

Edmond Dantès, as the protagonist, undergoes a remarkable transformation from a young and naïve sailor to the enigmatic and vengeful Count of Monte Cristo.

His journey is one of both physical and emotional growth, as he grapples with the consequences of his actions and the moral implications of seeking vengeance.

The supporting characters are equally well-developed, each with their unique motivations and struggles.

Mercédès, Edmond's former love interest, is torn between her past and present, loyalty and remorse.

The complex antagonist, Fernand Mondego, presents a deeply conflicted character, embodying jealousy, greed, and ambition.

Alexandre Dumas was, no doubt, a talented author.

The Count of Monte Cristo is a literary masterpiece that weaves an intricate and suspenseful plot.

How's that for a chilling birthday plan? But here's the catch—Faith has no memory of that eerie encounter.

Yet, Death's haunting presence lingers in her art, adding a spooky flavor to her life.

BOOK REVIEW: GREAT EXPECTATIONS BY CHARLES DICKENS

And voilà! On her special day, Death himself makes a grand entrance, setting off a wild supernatural battle where Faith's existence is on the line. I tell you, it's a showdown like no other!

And wait, there's more! At a Halloween bash, Faith meets the infamous David Star, a total heartthrob, dripping with charm. But can she trust him?

With all the supernatural shenanigans going on, she's got her doubts. It's like a supernatural love triangle with a twist!

As if things couldn't get any crazier, Faith uncovers ancient prophecies that connect her, Death, and Mr. Dreamy David. Yep, all hell breaks loose, and I mean it quite literally!

BOOK REVIEW: THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE BY AUDREY NIFFENEGGER

Suitable Audience

You crave a thrilling mix of paranormal and supernatural elements with a side of mature romance? Death is My BFF is the perfect pick.

Fans of dark romance (with morally ambiguous love interests) will find themselves captivated by this tale of life, death, and everything in between. I am not kidding!

My Thoughts

The characters are what make this series shine like a star (pun intended!).

Faith is a breath of fresh air, a strong and relatable protagonist who grows from a high schooler to a fearless young adult.

And Death? Oh, he's like an anti-hero you'll love to hate (or hate to love, who knows!).

His mysterious and sarcastically funny nature adds an extra dose of spookiness and charm. Who knew Death could be so complex?

And, boy, does he know how to play mind games with Faith!

But let's talk about the writing style. Sure, there are a few rough patches with grammar and confusing moments in her drafts on Wattpad, but don't let that spook you away!

Katarina is working her magic on editing, and let me tell you, she wrote this first draft when she was just 14-15! Talk about talent!

As you dive into the series, you'll find yourself immersed in Faith's narrative and Death's snarky dialogue (my kind of duo!).

BOOK REVIEW: STORM AND SILENCE BY ROBERT THIER

And yes, David Star might be described as oh-so-attractive a bit too often, but hey, who doesn't love a charming character with a few mood swings? It keeps things interesting!

Death is My BFF is a wickedly entertaining series that'll leave you wanting more, despite the occasional bumps in the literary road.

Trust me, you won't be able to resist the charm of Death himself (in a totally non-morbid way, of course!).

So, grab your favorite snacks and let the wild ride begin! Happy reading, my fellow book-loving souls!

Mora

Hello, my bookworms!

Are you a fan of classic masterpieces? If you are, I have no doubt that you’ve read at least one novel of Charles Dickens.

Charles Dickens, one of the greatest literary figures of the 19th century, penned many timeless classic novels.

It’s difficult to decide which one of his should be reviewed first. But I will go with Great Expectations this time.

Title: Great Expectations
Author: Charles Dickens
Genre: Classis, Romance
Status: Published
Platform: Amazon

Summary

Set in Victorian England, Great Expectations follows the life of young Pip, an orphan raised by his abusive sister and her kind-hearted husband, Joe Gargery.

Living in poverty in the marshy countryside, Pip's life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters an escaped convict, Magwitch, in the graveyard.

Pip helps Magwitch by providing him with food and tools, and this act of kindness sparks a series of events that will shape Pip's future.

Soon after, Pip is invited to the eccentric Miss Havisham's decaying mansion, Satis House, to entertain her adopted daughter, Estella.

Estella, brought up by Miss Havisham to break men's hearts, treats Pip with disdain, igniting a deep infatuation in the young boy.

The encounter leaves Pip feeling inadequate and ashamed of his humble background.

Pip's life takes a dramatic shift when a mysterious benefactor, secretly Magwitch, arranges for him to become a gentleman in London.

Pip embarks on a journey of transformation, leaving behind his past and striving for a higher social status.

As he becomes entangled in the bustling London society, Pip discovers the true nature of wealth, love, and the consequences of his choices.

Suitable Audience

Great Expectations is an excellent read for lovers of classic literature and those who enjoy richly developed characters and intricate storytelling.

Its exploration of human ambition, social class, and the complexities of human relationships make it a thought-provoking and engrossing read for audiences of any age.

Read Book Review: The Enchantment of Lady Ice by J. D. Ruiz

My Thoughts

Charles Dickens masterfully creates a diverse cast of characters, each with their own quirks, flaws, and redeeming qualities.

Pip, as the protagonist, undergoes significant personal growth throughout the novel. His journey from a naive and impressionable young boy to a more self-aware and humble man is at the heart of the story.

Estella, the enigmatic and cold-hearted beauty, is another memorable character.

Her upbringing under Miss Havisham's influence has made her unable to express genuine emotions, and her interactions with Pip are both captivating and heart-wrenching.

Magwitch, the convict, proves to be a complex character with unexpected depths of kindness and love.

His journey from a hardened criminal to a fatherly figure for Pip adds a layer of warmth and depth to the narrative.

Miss Havisham, the reclusive and eccentric woman still dressed in her wedding gown, is a haunting and tragic figure.

Her vendetta against men after being jilted on her wedding day gives rise to Estella's manipulative nature, adding an element of mystery to the novel.

Great Expectations is a beautifully crafted story that weaves together elements of mystery, romance, and social commentary.

The plot's twists and turns keep readers engaged, and the thematic exploration of social inequality and the impact of societal expectations add depth to the narrative.

Charles Dickens' ability to create empathetic characters and evoke a range of emotions from readers remains one of the novel's greatest strengths.

Great Expectations is a literary gem that will remain a captivating and relevant work of literature for generations to come.

Mora

BOOK REVIEW: A IS FOR ALIBI BY SUE GRAFTON

My Thoughts

The Time Traveler’s Wife is a well-crafted and unique novel.

Its beautifully crafted narrative that effortlessly weaves between different timelines and perspectives is one of a kind.

The author employs a non-linear storytelling approach, which allows readers to experience the events from both Henry and Clare's viewpoints.

The transitions between timelines are seamless and add a sense of wonder and intrigue to the novel.

Read Book Review: Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier

The exploration of time travel is meticulously researched, and Niffenegger skillfully navigates the complexities of this fantastical element, making it feel plausible within the context of the story.

The novel not only addresses the paradoxes of time travel but also delves into the emotional toll it takes on the characters.

The author’s prose is elegant, evocative, and emotionally charged. Her writing captures the essence of love and longing, immersing readers in the profound emotions of the characters.

Through her poignant and lyrical language, she elevates the novel to a powerful and heartrending exploration of love and loss.

Henry DeTamble is a sympathetic and complex protagonist.

His involuntary time-traveling makes him vulnerable and unpredictable, yet his love for Clare remains steadfast.

Clare Abshire is a strong, resilient, and passionate woman, determined to embrace the challenges of loving a time traveler.

The supporting characters, such as Clare's family and Henry's friends, add depth and richness to the story.

Read Book Review: Sanctum by JM Felic

They play significant roles in shaping the dynamics of Henry and Clare's relationship, highlighting the importance of human connections in a world marked by temporal uncertainty.

This novel is a testament to the enduring power of love and the profound impact of shared experiences, regardless of the boundaries imposed by time itself.

It leaves readers with a bittersweet ache and a deeper appreciation for the complexities of human connections that transcend the constraints of time.

With love,

Mora
